Newcastle Reelers

Dances

There are no currently planned dances.

Due to time pressures on the remaining members of the society, we are having a sabbatical for the 2007/8 academic year and will not be running any dances this year.  We'll see what happens next academic year.

Hopefully we will hold dances again in future years.

Who are we ?

Newcastle Reelers is Scottish Country Dance organisation based in Newcastle upon Tyne. The group was formed by former members of Newcastle University Scottish Country Dance Society (NUSCDS) in 2004, when the University club sadly folded after 55 years of existence due to a lack of student members.

The aim of the society is to run one or two Scottish dances per year in the Newcastle upon Tyne area and to enter a team in the Newcastle Festival, run by the Newcastle branch of the RSCDS, when we have sufficient interest and enthusiasm from our members.

Membership is open to those who are past members of NUSCDS.

Classes

Due to the small number of members, at present we do not hold regular classes. If you are interested in Scottish Country dancing in the Newcastle upon Tyne area, please visit the web site of the Newcastle Branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, where you will find details of classes in the area.

Newcastle University students

If you are a student at University of Newcastle upon Tyne and are interested in re-starting NUSCDS, please talk to Ann Guest (who is responsible for Student Societies in the Union). She has contact details for those who have been heavily involved with the society over the past 15 years and who are willing to share their experience and advice with anyone wanting to start up the club again.

Happy dancing!
